Managing Momentum: From Industry Events to Client Deadlines

An Entrepreneur’s Logbook - Entry 11

Introduction

In this entry of An Entrepreneur’s Logbook, I reflect on a week that’s far from over, even as Friday approaches. Instead of winding down, the weekend will be filled with catching up on unfinished tasks. Between attending an insightful industry networking event and racing to meet a major client deadline, it’s been a whirlwind of experiences—both challenging and rewarding. This entry dives into the lessons I’ve learned, the setbacks I’ve faced, and the small wins that keep me moving forward.

Industry Networking: More Than Just Small Talk

Last night, I attended an industry networking event that turned out to be much more than I expected. Instead of the usual routine of superficial conversations, excuse me for bring honest here, the event felt more like a reunion of familiar faces and a gathering of like-minded people. I found myself enjoying the atmosphere, which was a pleasant surprise.

The evening started with an enlightening talk on sensitivity readings—a process where content, like scripts or ads, gets reviewed for any unintended offensive or negative implications. Know for me. The whole topic. As someone working on international projects, this really hit for me. It’s so easy for cultural nuances to slip through the cracks, and this service can help prevent any misrepresentation. It’s definitely something I’ll be keeping in mind for our own future campaigns.

Dealing with Setbacks and Missed Opportunities

One of my main goals for attending the event was to follow up on a deal I’d been working on earlier. Unfortunately, we lost that deal to a competitor. It’s always tough to lose out on something you’ve invested time and effort in, and although I managed to discuss it briefly with the client during the event, the conversation got interrupted and I didn’t get any real closure. So, it’s back to the drawing board with this one. I’ll be reaching out again next week to see if there’s still a chance to turn things around. You win some, you lose some—but you always keep trying.

New Connections and a Busy Calendar

Despite the setback, the evening wasn’t a total loss. I had some good conversations with founders and industry peers about what’s on the horizon over the next few months. My calendar is already packed with upcoming events—everything from Vernissages to other networking opportunities. Staying connected is crucial, and I’m looking forward to seeing what opportunities arise from these gatherings. It’s going to be a busy week, but I know how important it is to stay present in these spaces.

The Deadline Race: An All-Hands-On-Deck Situation

Today, however, was an entirely different story—a race against the clock. We had a major deadline to deliver the final version of a client project, and it was all hands on deck to get it done. I’ve been working closely with the visual effects team, which I’m in the process of building out, and they really pulled through. The final video was amazing, and the client was thrilled, even calling it “fantastic.” It’s always a good sign when a client starts talking about new projects immediately after delivery. That’s when you know you’ve hit the mark.

But, of course, it wouldn’t be a deadline day without some last-minute changes. They always seem to appear just when you think everything’s wrapped up. The team was understandably frustrated, but we stayed focused and managed to deliver exactly what was needed. By the time we finished, it was well past midnight.

Reflection: The Mindset Behind the Grind

These kinds of days make you realize how demanding this work can be. There’s hardly any time to relax, but I’m starting to believe that’s more of a mindset issue than anything else. I don’t need much downtime to recharge—what keeps me going is staying motivated, either through my own energy or from the people I work with. It’s about maintaining momentum and finding balance.

Looking back on the week, I’m reminded of how important it is to stay focused on what truly matters, even when the pressure is high. Some sacrifices are necessary along the way, but as long as I keep moving forward, I know I’m on the right path.

Conclusion: Keep Moving Forward

Reflecting on this week, I can say it’s been a mix of wins, losses, and hard work, but ultimately, I’m moving in the right direction. Whether it’s networking, managing a team, or meeting client demands, every experience offers something to learn from. If any of this resonates with you, I’d love to hear your thoughts—whether you’re facing similar challenges or have your own stories to share. Feel free to reach out, and let’s keep this conversation going.
